The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team hosted the Lady Hub Invitational on Saturday, and the girls finished fifth out of five schools with six total points. The Lady Hubs will resume action this week with matches against Mendota, Ottawa and Newman Central Catholic.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team hosted the Lady Hub Invitational on Saturday, and the girls finished fifth out of five schools with six total points. The Lady Hubs will resume action this week with matches against Mendota, Ottawa and Newman Central Catholic.

Senior Jasmine Rissman took fifth place at No. 1 singles, going 0-4 over four matches. Rissman took five games in each of her first two matches, which were a 2-6, 3-6 loss against Kaneland’s Sarah Ngyuen and a 3-6, 2-6 loss to DeKalb’s Kayla Webb. Rissman won four games in each of her final two matches, which were a 2-6, 2-6 loss to Freeport’s Sydney Hayunga and a 2-6, 2-6 loss against Newman’s Avery Meyer.

Senior Ashlynn Leininger took fifth place at No. 2 singles, going 0-4 over four matches. Leininger played a close first match against Newman’s Emily Schaab, falling 4-6, 3-6. Leininger then took four games in a 2-6, 2-6 loss to Kaneland’s Ally Mitchinson before earning five games in a 3-6, 2-6 loss against DeKalb’s K.D. Johnson. Leininger’s final match was a 2-6, 2-6 loss to Freeport’s Alyse Eshelman.

Junior Ruth Gardner and sophomore Melanie Gonzalez took fifth place at No. 1 doubles, going 0-4 over five matches. The girls lost their first two matches against DeKalb (Izi Meyers Miller and Josie Hoppenworth) and Freeport (Jasmine Bigelow and Anika Foster) by identical scores of 2-6, 3-6 before dropping their last two matches against Newman (Maddy Jacobs and Sydney Schott) and Kaneland (Anna Carlson and Erin McMullen) by scores of 2-6, 2-6.

Freshmen Josie Lundquist and MeLisa Young took fifth place at No. 2 doubles, going 0-4 over four matches. The girls played a tough first match against Freeport (Kaitlyn Williams and Amiah Misek) but fell 6-4, 6-7(2-7), 2-10. The freshmen lost 2-6, 2-6 against Kaneland (Evie Taylor and Haley Plach) and 2-6, 3-6 against Newman (Chloe Klein and Madelyn Ryan) before dropping another tight match 3-6, 6-4, 4-10 to DeKalb (Addie Lopez and Noemi Fuentez).

Sophomore Sawyer McGee and freshman Jordin Dickey went 1-3 at No. 3 doubles to take fourth place for Rochelle. The girls played a tight 4-6, 4-6 loss to Newman (Julia Ardis and Brynkee Hermayer) before falling 3-6, 3-6 against Freeport (Zoie Barden and Jamie Rodriguez). McGee and Dickey topped DeKalb (Alison Anderson & Seantae Johnson) 6-3, 6-3 before dropping their match to Kaneland (Christel Lamera and Sofia Gonzalez Magnabosco) 2-6, 2-6.
