Girls Tennis: Rochelle hosts Princeton for Senior Night

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team honored its three seniors (Jasmine Rissman, Ashlynn Leininger and Lila Roush) when the Lady Hubs hosted Princeton for its final match of the regular season on Thursday.

Princeton defeated Rochelle 4-1 to drop the Lady Hubs to 1-14 on the season. Junior Caitlin McMurray was shut out 0-6, 0-6 by Princeton’s Allison Blocki at No. 1 singles while junior Ruth Gardner took four games including three in the second set of her 1-6, 3-6 loss to Maddie Devert at No. 2 singles.

Seniors Jasmine Rissman and Ashlynn Leininger won three games in the first set of their 3-6, 0-6 loss to Princeton’s Julia Hochstatter and Nicole Carlone at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Josie Lundquist and MeLisa Young earned five games and played a close second set in their 1-6, 4-6 loss against Lydia Brown and Emma Zeleniak at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Melanie Gonzalez and freshman Jordin Dickey earned Rochelle’s lone win on the day, defeating Princeton’s Nyla Thompson and Kaewta Usaphrom 6-2, 6-7, 7-2 at No. 3 doubles. Rochelle will take the court for the Northern Illinois Big 12 Varsity Conference Championships this weekend before competing in the IHSA Class 1A Rochelle Sectional next Friday and Saturday.
