Girls Tennis: Rochelle shut out by Ottawa

Lady Pirates top Lady Hubs 5-0

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team took the court for its final conference match of the season on Wednesday, when the Lady Hubs hosted the Ottawa Lady Pirates. Rochelle lost by a score of 5-0 to drop to 1-13 on the season.

Junior Ruth Gardner took one game in her 0-6, 1-0 loss against Ottawa’s Natalie Tabor at No. 1 singles while junior Caitlin McMurray was shut out 0-6, 0-6 by Aubry Theissen at No. 2 singles. Seniors Jasmine Rissman and Ashlynn Leininger were also shut out (0-6, 0-6) at No. 1 doubles, falling against Bergen Johnson and Marta Johnson.

Freshmen Josie Lundquist and MeLisa Young fell 0-6, 0-6 against Ottawa’s Emily Walker and Cassie Claus at No. 2 doubles while sophomore Melanie Gonzalez and freshman Jordin Dickey earned four games in their 4-6, 0-6 loss to Rebekah Felty and Megan Orsini at No. 3 doubles.

Rochelle will host Princeton on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for Senior Night before beginning the Northern Illinois Big 12 Varsity Conference Championships in Rochelle on Friday. The Lady Hubs will then compete in the IHSA Class 1A Sectional at Rochelle on Friday, Oct. 12.
