The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team returned to action at its home court for the IHSA Class 1A Rochelle Sectional on Friday. Juniors Ruth Gardner and Caitlin McMurray represented the Lady Hubs in singles play, while seniors Jasmine Rissman and Ashlynn Leininger suited up for doubles along with freshmen Josie Lundquist and MeLisa Young.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity girls tennis team returned to action at its home court for the IHSA Class 1A Rochelle Sectional on Friday. Juniors Ruth Gardner and Caitlin McMurray represented the Lady Hubs in singles play, while seniors Jasmine Rissman and Ashlynn Leininger suited up for doubles along with freshmen Josie Lundquist and MeLisa Young.
McMurray entered the sectional as Rochelle’s No. 1 singles play, taking one game in her first set against Freeport’s No. 1 player Sydney Hayunga before being shut out in the second set of her 1-6, 0-6 loss. Gardner was Rochelle’s No. 2 singles player, and she faced Sycamore’s No. 1 player Lizzie Egerman in the opening round, losing 0-6, 0-6.
Rissman and Leininger (Rochelle’s No. 1 doubles pair) combined for three games in their 1-6, 2-6 loss against Freeport’s No. 1 doubles team of Anika Foster and Jasmine Bigelow. Young and Lundquist (Rochelle’s No. 2 doubles duo) won two games in the first set of their 2-6, 0-6 loss against Rockford Boylan’s No. 2 doubles combination of Faith Moss and Sarah Bowyer.
