OTTAWA — The Rochelle Lady Hub track and field team battled Ottawa and LaSalle-Peru on the road Thursday afternoon. The Lady Hubs took second in the Interstate 8 Conference meet, scoring 60 points and falling just short of the Cavaliers, who won with 62 points.
Junior Teagan Meyers won two events for the Lady Hubs, finishing first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.40 seconds and the high jump with a clearance of 1.46 meters. Meyers placed second in the triple jump with a personal record of 9.26 meters and second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.77. Freshman Alivia Henkel shined for Rochelle, winning the 400-meter dash in 1:02.89 and taking second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 31.41.
Seniors Afi Gati and Kiya Porter dominated the throwing events, with Gati winning both the shot put (9.93 meters) and the discus (21.95 meters) while Porter placed second in the shot put (8.14 meters) and the discus (21.71 meters). Henkel took second in the pole vault (1.82 meters) and sophomore Baylie Sutton finished second in the long jump with a leap of 3.85 meters.
Junior Liberty Hayes placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.14, while junior Sara Johnson took third in both the 100-meter hurdles (20.53) and the 1600-meter run (6:29.19). Rochelle’s 400-meter relay team of Hayes, Henkel, Sutton and freshman Kylie Smith won with a time of 56.26. The Lady Hubs (1-3) will face Sycamore and Morris next Tuesday.
Kaneland & Plano
The Rochelle Lady Hub track and field team opened the season Tuesday, finishing third in a three-team Interstate 8 meet with the Kaneland Knights and Plano Reapers. Rochelle scored 28 points, while Plano totaled 41 points and Kaneland won the meet with 116 points.
Junior Teagan Meyers shined for the Lady Hubs, winning the high jump with a clearance of 4 feet 10 inches while placing second in the triple jump with a leap of 30-0 ½. Meyers also took second in the 200-meter dash, clocking in with a time of 29.05 seconds. Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team of Meyers, Liberty Hayes, Kylie Smith and Alivia Henkel won with a time of 1:59.17.
Senior Afi Gati led Rochelle in the throwing events, finishing second in the shot put with a personal-record heave of 34-8. Senior Kiya Porter placed fifth in the discus throw (66-11) and sixth in the shot put (27-5). Junior Sara Johnson and sophomore Yuelma Ortiz were leaders in the distance crew, taking second and fourth in the 1600-meter run with times of 6:27.23 and 6:39.72, respectively. Johnson and Ortiz also finished second and third in the 3200-meter run, respectively.
