Gladys M. Terry, 98, passed away peacefully with her granddaughter, Teresa Davidson, by her side Thursday, Aug. 18, 2017 at the Franklin Grove Nursing Home in Franklin Grove.

ROCHELLE — Gladys M. Terry, 98, passed away peacefully with her granddaughter, Teresa Davidson, by her side Thursday, Aug. 18, 2017 at the Franklin Grove Nursing Home in Franklin Grove.  Gladys was born on Aug. 12, 1919 to Fred and Minnie (Lumsden) Arends in Ogle County.  She graduated from Ashton High School in 1937.  Gladys married Harold Henert on Sept. 5, 1937 in Ashton.  They were married for 50 years when Harold passed on Nov. 11, 1987.  
When her children were young, she worked as the secretary for the Ashton School.  After raising her family, Gladys went back to school and graduated from DeKalb Cosmotology in 1968. She operated her own shop in her home for 11 years.  
On June 20, 1990, she married Don Terry in Rockton.  He passed on May 3, 2012.
Gladys was a member of the Chana Methodist Church and the Rochelle Hospital Auxillary.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and especially planning family gatherings.  Gladys was very active and found great joy in serving her community and church.
Gladys is survived by her three children, Norma (Don) Huntley of Chana, Dr. Terry Henert of Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, and Brenda Chapman of Ashton; two step daughters, Carol Dilbeck and Donna Smith; her sister, Rogene Parris of Birmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren, Kim (Becky) Huntley, Gina (Phil) Pedraza, Jill (Joe) Schwartz, Teresa (Jason) Davidson, Bradley (LuAnn) Chapman and David Chapman; 14 great-grandchildren, Daniel (Allison) Huntley and Geoffrey Huntley, Trent Butler and Ali (Dave) Rossi, Gabe Pedraza, Benjamin and Katie Schwartz, Alexa (James) Buikema, Caleb Davidson, Zachary, Taylor, Addison, Stephen and Jake Chapman; great-great-grandson, James Huntley; numerous nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, June Kersten and Marjorie Hays; two brothers, Henry and Raymond Arends; son-in-law, Steve Chapman; two great-grandchildren, Westin and Channing Butler; and one step great-grandchild.
The visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the Chana Methodist Church, 606 N. Main St., Chana.  The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Chan IK Choi officiating.  There will be a luncheon immediately following service at the church.  Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Ashton Cemetery in Ashton.
