Golden K ready to serve up some chili

ROCHELLE – November has arrived and that means it is time for the Kiwanis Golden K to host its annual Chili Day. The club will serve on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rochelle Methodist Church Hicks Hall.
Tickets for the event are $7 and include all-you-can-eat chili, French bread, cake and juice or coffee. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from any one of the Kiwanis Golden K members.  Children 10 and under can eat for free and carry-out orders are also available.
All of the chili for the event is homemade by Kiwanis Golden K members.
“We start out making about 90 gallons of chili, we used to make it a week ahead of time, but now we make it the day before since it is a little better process that way,” explained Dennis Swinton, past Lt. Governor and current Golden K member.

The Rochelle Township High School Key Club will also be at the event with a cookie sale and a 50/50 raffle. The Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis.
The main goal of the Chili Day event is to raise money for the Kiwanis Golden K and more than 20 different organizations including the Salvation Army, Focus House, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the RTHS Key Club and scholarships.
Other fundraisers and events put on by the Kiwanis Golden K are the annual peanut day and pancake day that will be taking place in February.
The Kiwanis Golden K currently has 50 members dedicated to serving their organization and the community.
“The fantastic thing about our club is that we have 50 members, and it could be snowing and blowing and they will all show up for a meeting or a project,” explained Swinton.
