ROCHELLE — Emotions were high for Rochelle Township High School’s senior golfers when the Hubs hosted LaSalle-Peru for their annual Senior Night match on Monday.

The team recognized four senior players including Megan Thiravong and Reese Kirk, who have each spent four years with the RTHS golf program. While the Hubs have played well this season, they were unable to win on Senior Night, falling 174-190. Rochelle (6-4, 2-3 Interstate 8) will continue conference play against Morris and Sycamore later this week. Seniors Dominic Williams and Caden Shaw, who was absent, were also recognized Monday evening.

“It’s been a great experience,” Kirk said. “It’s been a blur as far as how fast the time has gone from when I played on the JV team as a freshman to where I am now. I wanted to step up and be a leader for the team, and I feel that this has been our best year. I’ve definitely felt some emotions throughout the season, especially after tournaments, but it’s been a great time having the opportunity to play and grow up alongside Megan, Dom and Caden.”

Sophomore Griffin Ohlinger fired Rochelle’s low score of 45, while three seniors including Thiravong (46), Kirk (49) and Williams (50) rounded out the Hub varsity team against the Cavaliers. Coleman Rundle outpaced all varsity players on Monday, carding 41 for LaSalle-Peru while Carter Fenza and Jon Milota each recorded 44. Rochelle has two dual meets left before beginning the Interstate 8 Conference Championships and the IHSA Regionals.

“We wanted to go out and play like it was any other meet, but it was definitely a special day,” Williams said. “I haven’t been on the team long, but it’s been a really fun year. We have a lot of fun together and we’re really relaxed. I think we’re having a good season, and if we keep our heads down and shoot good scores over the next few weeks, we’ll finish strong
