GENOA — Caleb Gould just needed the first few shots to ball before he ran away from the field at the sectional level of the IHSA Class 3A 3-Point Showdown at Genoa-Kingston this past weekend.
The Rochelle senior knocked down a contest-high 11 3-pointers out of 15 attempts to advance to the state competition in Peoria this Thursday at Carver Arena. Gould is the first Hub to make the state showdown since Jason Harper in 2003.
“I was a little nervous but when my first shot went in I was like, ‘Alright this isn’t bad,’” Gould said. “It feels good. I’m a little nervous but I think I’ll be alright.”
Gould finished in a tie with four other players at the regional shooting contest after hitting nine shots in the opening round. He then connected on five more in the knockout round to reach the sectional competition.
