DIXON — The Hubs varsity tennis team took on the Dixon Dukes Friday afternoon to close out the week, with Rochelle picking up one point but losing the match by a score of 4-1.

Junior Noah Griffith earned his revenge on Dixon senior Sam Bratt, who edged out Griffith for first place in the Hub Varsity Invitational this past weekend. Griffith took down Bratt in No. 1 singles by a score of 6-1 in the first set before beating him 7-5 in the second set to clinch the match victory. Junior Kevin Zheng took the court for Rochelle in No. 2 singles, falling 2-6, 0-6 to Duke junior Jason Rugh.

Senior Bryan Garcia and sophomore Hector Garcia faced Dixon sophomores Daniel Ferguson and Jonathan Rivera in No. 1 doubles action, with Ferguson and Rivera winning by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Juniors Ozzy Fulgencio and Tyler Nalley represented Rochelle in No. 2 doubles, falling 0-6, 0-6 to Patrick Johnson and Blake Piller.

Rounding out the Hub troops on Friday were freshman Ben Hickey and sophomore Emilio Nava, who stepped up to the varsity level from the freshman-sophomore team to face Dixon players Ethan Lesage and Luke Stees in No. 3 doubles. Hickey and Nava battled hard, but lost 1-6, 0-6.

Rochelle moves to 4-10 on the season with the team defeat, and the Hubs will return to action on Tuesday when they play the Streator Bulldogs at Rochelle Township High School.
