OTTAWA — The Hubs varsity tennis team won both of its singles matches against Ottawa on Thursday, but the Rochelle boys were unable to bring home the victory, falling by a score of 3-2 to drop to 3-6 on the season. Rochelle will host the Hub Varsity Invitational this weekend.
Senior Noah Griffith rallied from a first-set loss to defeat Ottawa’s Jack Marvel at No. 1 singles by a three-set score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-0. Senior Kevin Zheng bested Ottawa’s Max Vargas at No. 2 singles, winning in straight sets (6-2 ,6-4).
Ottawa won all three doubles points on Thursday, with Nate Meyer and Logan Olszewski winning over Rochelle juniors Juan Montemayor and Hector Garcia at No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-0. Ottawa’s Declan McGittigan and Andrew Hancock took down Rochelle junior Emilio Nava and senior Jesus Nava at No. 2 doubles (6-4, 6-4), and Ottawa’s Jonah Sharp and Tyler Olesen beat Rochelle junior Diego Lopez and sophomore Sean Flanagan at No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-4.
