White-Broome is requesting attendees to please RSVP by April 27.

Blessings

HFH of Ogle County has worked on three projects this year, including the one in Rochelle that is nearly completed. There is a house blessing scheduled for Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. at the home located on Eighth Avenue, the organization’s twelfth build in Ogle County.

Derek and April Price and family were selected by HFH Ogle County as the recipient of the new home in Rochelle. As part of the process, the family needed to contribute 200 hours of “sweat equity” in the building of the home, working alongside many other volunteers and local organizations.

White-Broome said the Price family has contributed the hours and then some, learning about what goes into building a home.

“The Price family has been very invested in the build, well beyond the 200 hours. They have spent a lot of time here and did whatever was asked of them,” said White-Broome. “They just finished the installation of the wood flooring throughout…they did it all themselves. They have been a delight to work with…energetic, above and beyond.”

HFH Ogle County board member Gail Tuttle said in her experience with the organization, she has seen so many families positively affected.

“I’ve seen lives changed through home ownership,” Tuttle said. “With an affordable mortgage, people have gone on to finish school and get their degrees, kids become involved in activities in the community…these are actual results we can see.”

Through HFH families have a no-interest loan, which gives them the affordability to own their own home.

HFH International is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry with more than 1,400 local affiliates in the U.S. and more than 70 national organizations around the world. Since 1976 they have helped to build or repair more than 800,000 houses and serve more than 6.8 million people worldwide.

Through “sweat equity,” the future homeowner works alongside the volunteers in the house in many phases of the project including cleaning the build site, working on their home or a home for another family, or even assisting in administrative duties.
