ROCHELLE — Harold Grange Kissack, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, on his 92nd birthday at the Rochelle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
He was born on Nov. 29, 1926, in Armstrong, the son of Everett “Bud” and Berniece (Evans) Kissack.
Harold attended one room schools in and around Potomac and Armstrong, and graduated from Potomac High School in 1944, earning 13 varsity letters.
Upon his graduation, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve in World War II.
Following his discharge, he enrolled in Southern Illinois University earning his bachelor’s of education degree in 1951 and began his teaching and coaching career in Findley. While at Findley he earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Illinois.
In 1959 Harold moved to Heyworth to teach and coach, enjoying a number of successful seasons as the athletic director, head basketball coach and head baseball coach. In 1969, Harold became the assistant principal at Rochelle Township High School where he was known to staff and students as the “main man.” While at Rochelle, Harold continued actively pursuing a doctorate degree finishing a few credits short of completion before retiring in 1983.
Harold was a member of the Rochelle Country Club for 42 years. While his interests were many, his passion was playing the game of golf. In the spring and summer months he played in Rochelle and in the fall and winter months he played in Brownsville, Texas. During his years playing, he recorded 12 holes-in-one.
Harold was also a lifetime member of the VFW and also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by special friend, Angie Agnos; daughter, Jan (Jim) Hart, of Rochelle; daughter-in-law, Wendy Kissack of Rochelle; sons, Jay (Karen) Kissack, of Algonquin, Joe (Carmen) Kissack, of Rochelle, and step-son Jimmy (Lori) Woolbright, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren, Jorie (Brian) Jackson, Jodie Hart, Jill Hart, Kyle (Jennifer) Kissack, Kelly (Mitch) Buh, Logan (Danielle) Kissack, Dylan Kissack, Courtney (Josh) Hunter, Hannah Kissack, and Alyson Woolbright; great-grandchildren, Ben and Emma Jackson, James Hart and Jadon Exantus, Bryn, Reese, Tess, and Grange Kissack, Devlen, Treyton, Cheyenne and Kendra Buh.
Proceeding him in death were his father and mother, Everett and Berniece Kissack; his sister, Darlene Brown; his brother, Bob Kissack; his oldest son, Jeff Kissack; and wife, Margarette.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, from noon to 1:45 p.m. at the Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N 6th St., Rochelle. Funeral service will follow on Sunday at 2 p.m. with pastor Bobby Gardner officiating.
Military services will be provided by the Eastern-Lee Ogle Honor Guard. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. Please omit flowers, a memorial has been established to Pegasus Special Riders. A guest book is available at www.ungerhorner.com.
