DECATUR — Millikin University will induct four new members in the Millikin Athletic Hall of Fame during the annual Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame Induction dinner on Friday, Oct. 6 in Decatur, Illinois. The event is part of Millikin 102nd Homecoming Celebration.

The 2017 Induction Class includes former football player and wrester Richard Harvey ’93, football player and wrestler Tom Mahoney ’90, men’s basketball player Mike “Mickey” Sprinkle ‘58 and multisport athlete Leslie Waddell-Glore ’85.

Richard Harvey is being inducted for his play as a football quarterback and a wrestler in the 158 and 167-pound weight classes.  Harvey also participated in track and field while at Millikin.

In football, Harvey was a four-year starter in football and was a member of the 1989 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship team that advanced to the NCAA playoffs. As a wrestler, Harvey was a three-time CCIW Wrestling Champion and a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier.  He served two years as wrestling team captain.

Harvey, an Education major, was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. After graduating from Millikin, Harvey earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Illinois University. Harvey is current the assistant principal, head wrestling coach and assistant football coach at Rochelle Township High School. While at Rochelle, Harvey has coached multiple state wrestling champions, all-state wrestlers, and an Elite Eight team.

Harvey was in the first induction class of the Mt. Zion High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was recognized as Assistant Coach of the Year by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association and has twice been nominated for that organization’s Head Coach of the Year award.
