ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Township High School athletic department will have a new director at the helm beginning the 2018-2019 school year.
The varsity Hubs football team will also have a new head coach.
At Monday night’s board of education meeting, current assistant principal Rich Harvey resigned his administrative position effective June 30, 2018 and was hired as the RTHS Athletic Director beginning July 1, 2018.
“I’m excited about this opportunity to have a different impact [on our students] as athletic director,” Harvey said. “I will continue with much of the work that [Kevin] Crandall has done.”
Harvey has been with RTHS for 11 years, all of those years as assistant principal as well as several years as the varsity wrestling coach.
The newly named head varsity football coach has years-worth of ties to Rochelle and the high school’s football program, both as a player and as a coach.
Kyle Kissack was hired by the board Monday night to serve as the high school’s head coach. He resigned his position as assistant football coach, effective June 30, 2018, and will effectively take over the position of head coach July 1, 2018.
Kissack, a Rochelle native, played football for the Hubs while attending high school and has coached under Crandall’s direction for 10 years.
“We’ve been playing and coaching together for about 14 years,” Kissack said. “It’s an honor to be entrusted with the tradition of Rochelle football. Rochelle football runs deep in my life – having played while in high school and coaching. I am looking forward to leading the program in the future.”
Current athletic director Crandall is completing his 24th year with RTHS and will retire at the end of this school year.
