High winds topple semi-trucks near Rochelle

Blocks southbound traffic at Rochelle exit

ROCHELLE — High winds were the apparent cause of two separate semi-trucks overturning on Tuesday near Rochelle and Creston.

Southbound traffic on I-39 north of Exit 99 was backed up over the lunch hour and re-rerouted onto IL Route 38, as crews worked to remove a truck that toppled over and blocked southbound traffic for a period of time.

According to early emergency calls, the driver may have been trapped but reportedly he was able to get out of the vehicle.

In a separate incident, a semi truck traveling on Locust Road between Creston and Rochelle tipped on its side and completely blocked both lanes of traffic.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene to assist the driver, who had gotten out of the truck but had a head laceration.
