Hillcrest board committees set

Posted

HILLCREST – During their monthly meeting on Wednesday Village of Hillcrest trustees were reassigned to heading up their respective village departments, while the Streets and Grounds and Building and Zoning departments were combined into one.
Pam Pittman will now be in charge of finance, Dan Potter will be in charge of water, Randy Salsbury will take over health and welfare and Rick Rhoades will take care of both streets and grounds and building and zoning.
It was also announced that trustee Rich Elliott will be resigning from the board going into effect Thursday July 11 at midnight. His term ended in May but he stayed temporarily because there was nobody to run the water position at that time. Now that a new trustee has been appointed he has decided to step down. Following an executive session, Elliot and Eric Bearrows were hired on as village seasonal employees. They will work in the spring, summer, fall and if needed in the winer.
A motion to purchase a new folding machine for $1,219 was also approved. The previous machine is over 30 years old and has been in need of repair for some time.

“We have been holding that thing together for quite a while with parts and trying to fix it, and it’s to the point where it is just done,” said village president Jason Fore
A chip seal program that was completed on Tuesday was also discussed. The program helped widen and strengthen certain roads throughout town including Powers, Erickson, Rosalind and Errett, between Linda and Hillcrest.
“We have put milling down, we have compacted gravel and then they did a hybrid of the chip seal program to bond that whole thing together. So, hopefully that will give us a little bit more durability for that area,” said Fore
The village is waiting for a response about the extension of their Department of Commerce and Equal Opportunity grant. The funds from the grant will be dispersed between the cities generator, wells and water tower
Village trustees also set up a special meeting with Baxter Woodman on July 31 at 6 p.m. The entire board will be in attendance to review the priorities for water main replacements as well as sanitary sewer and streets.

Other Business
The village is in possession of a police car and trustees debated whether to keep the car or to remove the lights and sell it. The village has had a previous offer of $4,000 for the vehicle, but trustees decided to table the issue for a month before making a final decision.
A Transition Yard Ordinance stating that any open yard must be fenced in, screened and landscaped will also be reviewed for next month’s meeting.
