ROCHELLE — Based on the recent water system testing, Hillcrest engineer Jim Sparber recommended the village construct an additional water tower to meet the needs of the village.

Sparber discussed the results of the modeling test of the village’s water distribution, storage capacity, and well supply. The distribution test determines the water pressure, storage volume for adequate fire protection, and development of water main improvements.

The results indicated the village needs an estimated 160,000 gallons of water storage based on the peak demands, which is far above the current 50,000-gallon storage water tower. The recommended placement of a new water tower is in northern section of the village in the Windover subdivision.

“We are recommending closer to a 200,000 gallon tank. That would increase your fire flow capacity,” Sparber said. “Plus you have the 50,000 tank you already have.”

A new tower with a 200,000-gallon tank is around $600,000. Water main improvements could run the village $200,000 for each block of 600 feet.

The testing indicated the village wells supply the minimum water requirement.

Sparber also said he still advocates an interconnection with Rochelle in the event of an emergency.

Trustees approved a motion to begin the bidding process to repair several of the village’s streets using the Motor Fuel Tax funds. Streets to be patched include sections of Scott, Hillcrest, Wayne, Errett, Linda, and Maple.

Trustees approved the repairs for the village generator at a cost of $1,010. Trustee Rich Elliott will research pricing on a new generator.

Trustees also approved the well repairs not to exceed $15,000. A preliminary estimate for $7,000 was received for parts only, not including labor. The motion specifies if the total estimate including labor exceeds the $15,000, a special meeting will need to be held for final approval.

A new gaming machine business has obtained a permit to operate at 229 Powers Road. The owners are in the process of remodeling and installing items for code requirements along with obtaining a liquor license.

Sat., May 13 is the village clean up day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A dumpster will be available behind Village Hall for all items except electronics, tires, and paint.

Jason Fore and Randy Salsbury, along with newcomer Pam Pittman were sworn in at Wednesday’s meeting.
