Hillcrest village president, clerk resigning

HILLCREST — Hillcrest’s president Steve Dodson and village clerk/treasurer Patti Moreno have both submitted their resignations Thursday.
Dodson said his last day is Monday, Aug. 27.
“With what’s going on, there’s too much stress to deal with anymore,” Dodson said. “The stress…being on the front line… it’s not a calm place to be anymore. Patti [Moreno] is tired of the situation and the atmosphere.”
Dodson also said since being the village president, he has made several suggestions to trustees and says tensions have been growing.
“There have been stressful situations out there I had to go through. I’m on my fourth maintenance man… stressful to teach him, and it’s not my department,” Dodson said. “I always said that I’d like to have the trustees involved in their departments. It shouldn’t be piled on me.”

Dodson said he has made suggestions for the village in regards to the well, but he’s frustrated nothing gets done.
“I suggested to have water modeling, have it checked out and see what the costs to have a well and tower put in,” Dodson explained. “The board never gave any direction on how to go about it, or look into loans. It’s disrupting the whole system up there. I just feel I don’t want anymore. It’s just too much and I got to the point I can’t take it anymore.”

Dodson has previously served Hillcrest as a Zoning Board of Appeals member and as trustee before becoming president — in total serving about 25 years.

He did thank the residents for allowing him to serve.
“I feel honored they respected me and that they liked having me as their village president,” he said. “Someone asked me if I wanted to run again and I said no because I would be turning 72 and half my term was up. I would rather just move on… I’ve done my share. More residents need to step up. I’d like to have residents come in to the meetings. I do appreciate all the good relations with the volunteers… I’ve never had any trouble, they’ve always respected me. I enjoy talking to the residents out there.”
Dodson’s term is expiring in April. The board will need to appoint an acting president for the remainder of the term.
Moreno declined to comment on the reason for the resignation. Her last day is Tuesday, Sept. 4.
