History comes to life in Rochelle

ROCHELLE — Pieces of Rochelle’s history will be coming to life in a special presentation from members of the community, including members from Vince Carney Community Theatre at a fundraiser for the Flagg Township Museum.

The Champagne Brunch fundraiser is scheduled for Sunday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Salt 251 and will feature a buffet brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. along with a silent auction. Tickets are $25 or 2 for $40. The event is open to the public.

“From Hickory Nuts to Salt,” written by Dianne Jenner, will be performed by Gary Mason, Noah Carmichael, Jan DeVore and Doug Kroupa.

“The audience will meet Peter Unger, the first undertaker in Rochelle. They will also meet Emily Post, Charles Butterfield and Leonard Carmichael,” explained Jenner. “It’s a short humorous look at what we might expect when we become part of Rochelle history.”

Guests are welcome to eat anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; the performance is set to begin around 1 p.m.

“Dianne has extensive theater experience over the years with the Vince Carney Community Theatre,” said Jan DeVore, Flagg Township Museum Assistant Director. “Her talents are many and this program will prove to be another successful and entertaining look at our community. We already have a nice lineup of silent auction items, some have a celebration theme … spring, summer, history, Rochelle. We also have handcrafted items, vintage ornaments, an Amish quilt and a Victorian home tour with brunch for eight.”

Jenner said the play highlights some of the people who contributed to the history of Rochelle.

“Someday we all will be part of Rochelle history … join us for a short look around. You never know who you might meet,” said Jenner.

In order to ensure enough food for the brunch will be on hand, reservations are requested as soon as possible by contacting the museum at 815-562-3040 or email hubhistory@gmail.com. Payment can be made at the museum or at the door.
