AMBOY — On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Lee County Honor Flight Committee drew the winning raffle ticket for the patriotic quilt at the VFW in Dixon during the Queen of Hearts event.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Amboy Car Show by Coral Sanders, of Rochelle. The beautiful patriotic quilt was made and donated by Suzie Wanner of Dixon. Wanner’s donation of the quilt for the raffle raised money to help send area veterans on the next Lee County Honor Flight.
The Lee County Honor Flight Committee has sent nearly 400 area veterans to Washington D.C. over the past nine years through the Quad-Cities Honor Flight Hub.
The flight and all amenities are free to the veterans. Guardians who accompany and assist the veterans on the flight pay $400.
The committee will be raffling a second beautiful quilt made and donated by Edith Cater of Dixon in the near future. The committee wishes to thank Wanner and Cater for their generosity in making and donating these beautiful quilts. Through the raffle tickets purchased and individual donations received at various area events held this summer, the committee has raised enough money to send three area veterans on the next Lee County Honor Flight.
Veteran applications and guardian applications for the next Lee County Honor Flight are available at the Dixon VFW or through committee members. All area veterans who served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam are eligible for the Honor Flight at this time.
