ROCHELLE — Hortensia I. Salazar, 83, loving mother and grandmother, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 in Franklin Grove.
Hortensia was born Oct. 7, 1934 to Eulogio and Natividad (Flores) Inocencio in Minneapolis, Minn. She married Pascual Balderas Salazar on Dec. 1, 1951. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2011.
Over the years, Hortensia worked for Caron International and for Macklin Brothers.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by two sons, Edwardo and Pascual Jr.; two sisters, Elvita Inocencio, and Emma Scott; and brother, Gilbert Inocencio.
Hortensia is survived by three children, Rolando “Sal” (Laura) Salazar, Bonnie Salazar and Maggie (Dennis) Barringer, all of Rochelle; six brothers, Adolfo (Mary) Inocencio of Coal City, Rolando (Martha) Inocencio of San Antonio, Texas, Robert (Norma) Inocencio of Lytle, Texas, Cruz Inocencio of Aurora, Julio Inocencio of Lytle, Texas, and Eulogio Jr. of Lytle, Texas; three sisters, Amy Gomez of Lytle, Texas, Olga Ramirez of Lytle, Texas, Jovita Inocencio of Tenn.; brother-in-law, Bernard Scott of Rochelle; sister-in-law, Mary Inocencio of Lytle, Texas; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Vinnie) Cicala, Tiffany Salazar, Keyana Salazar and Skyler (Jade) Barringer; and one great-grandson, Keilon Salazar.
The visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. The funeral mass will be held at noon on Friday, Dec. 1 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle, with Father Ruben Herrera officiating. Burial will be at the Steward Cemetery at a later date after the cremation rites.
