Hubs baseball team drops weekend game against Forreston

Rochelle boys fall to 7-5 overall with 10-3 loss

ROCHELLE — The Hubs varsity baseball team hosted Forreston this past Saturday, with the Rochelle boys falling by a score of 10-3 to drop to 7-5 overall. Rochelle led 1-0 after the first inning after junior Zack Bernardin reached on an error and scored on a double-play ball groundout by junior Hayden Jones.

Forreston scored two runs in the top of the third inning to jump ahead 2-1, but the Hubs struck back with two runs of their own to retake the lead 3-2. Junior Brandon Johnson reached on a dropped third strike, and junior Johnny Beck singled soon after. Johnson scored on a single by sophomore Gavin Ansteth, and Beck crossed home plate when senior Blake Albers reached on an error.

Forreston took control of the game with six runs off five hits, two walks and one Rochelle error in the top of the fourth inning to lead 8-3. Forreston added one run in each of the next two innings to seal its seven-run victory over the Hubs. Junior Cody Johnson and junior Michael Eyster each recorded singles over the final three innings of play.
