The Hubs varsity basketball team won its second straight game to close out Marengo’s E.C. Nichols Holiday Classic on Friday, with the Rochelle boys taking down Rockford Christian 63-57 to finish fifth place in the tournament. The victory improved Rochelle’s overall record to 8-5 on the season.

MARENGO — The Hubs varsity basketball team won its second straight game to close out Marengo’s E.C. Nichols Holiday Classic on Friday, with the Rochelle boys taking down Rockford Christian 63-57 to finish fifth place in the tournament. The victory improved Rochelle’s overall record to 8-5 on the season.
“It was a really good team win,” senior Noah Griffith said. “We kept our composure and we tried to keep pushing and fighting… We were hungry for more wins and we came out making shots and playing as a team. We’re just trying to get on a roll and these wins are definitely confidence boosters.”
Junior Johnny Beck scored a team-high 23 points for Rochelle, while Griffith added 17 points including five 3-pointers made. Seniors Riley Lodico and Angel Aguirre combined for 14 points in the win. The Hubs led Rockford Christian 26-18 at halftime.
