FREEPORT — The Hubs freshman baseball team exploded on offense this past weekend, cruising to an easy 15-6 victory over the Freeport Pretzels on the road and improving to 1-1 overall.
Rochelle fell behind 4-2 after the first inning, but the boys turned in five runs in the top of the second inning and three runs over the third and fourth innings to jump ahead 10-5 after Freeport tacked on one more in the bottom of the third. RTHS added two more in the fifth and three in the seventh to put the game out of the Pretzels’ reach.
Seth Gould went 2-for-3 and drove in a team-high four runs for the Hubs, while Austin Greifenkamp recorded three RBIs and both Nick Albers and Kaleb Hess totaled two RBIs. Charlie Jandak went 2-for-5 with one RBI and a game-high three runs scored.
Nolan Andersen took the mound for Rochelle, firing four innings and striking out five while allowing just one earned run. Ethan Etes pitched the next two and two-thirds innings, with Gould recording the final out to lock down the Rochelle victory.
