MENDOTA — The Hubs varsity golf team didn’t field one of its top players on Wednesday, but Rochelle was still able to nail down a victory in the school’s triangular meet with Mendota and Amboy.
Without junior Hayden Jones, who missed Wednesday’s meet due to an injury, the Hubs scored a 177 to defeat Amboy (191) and finish one stroke behind Mendota (176). Seniors Garrett Glosser and Noah Griffith each stepped up in Jones’ absence, with Glosser shooting a team-low 36 and Griffith adding a 37.
Freshman Megan Thiravong shot a 51 for the Hubs, and junior Brady Shank (53) finished with Rochelle’s fourth-best varsity score of the day. The Hubs move to 4-6 on the season after Wednesday’s triangular meet, and the team will face Yorkville and Plano on Thursday.
The Hubs junior varsity golf team scored a 242 against Mendota and Amboy, with freshman Sam Hacaga leading the way for Rochelle with a 55.
