EARLVILLE — The Hubs varsity soccer team put far more shots on goal than the Earlville-Leland-Paw Paw Red Raiders Tuesday evening. But the Rochelle boys were unable to cash in on their scoring chances, and their offensive misfortunes resulted in their first defeat of the 2017 season.
Rochelle totaled 11 shots on goal, with junior Jessee Infante scoring for the fourth time in two days to get the Hubs on the board. Earlville-Leland-Paw Paw recorded five shots in the entire game, but the Red Raiders found just enough holes to take down Rochelle by a score of 4-1.
“We can’t take anything for granted,” head coach Brad Male said. “We have to come ready to play everyday, and hopefully that’s the experience we took from Tuesday. It was one of those days where things weren’t falling for us and we just weren’t playing our best.”
The Red Raiders led 2-0 at halftime before adding two insurance goals in the second half. While the Hubs couldn’t find the back of the net on Tuesday, the boys will have another chance to win when they face Somonauk on the road Thursday evening.
“We had our chances but we just didn’t capitalize,” Male said. “They made their opportunities count…. We need to make sure that, whatever the score is, we keep going and we play with our heads up.”
