ROCHELLE — The Hubs varsity tennis team faced Geneseo at home on Tuesday, with the Rochelle boys falling by a score of 4-1 to drop to 1-2 on the season. Senior Noah Griffith picked up Rochelle’s lone win at No. 1 singles, defeating Geneseo’s Mason Miller in two sets (6-2, 6-1).
Hub senior Kevin Zheng edged Geneseo’s Griffen Tracey 7-6(4) in the first set before losing the second and third sets (1-6 and 0-6) to drop the match at No. 2 singles. Juniors Juan Montemayor and Hector Garcia played a close two-set match with Geneseo’s Brandon Gallagher and Dylan Hart, falling 4-6, 1-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Junior Emilio Nava and senior Jesus Nava represented Rochelle at No. 2 doubles, losing 0-6, 2-6 against Geneseo’s Ben Ford and Mick Haverland. Sophomore Sean Flanagan and senior Tyler Nalley fell 0-1, 1-6 at No. 3 doubles to Geneseo’s Nathan Curran and Luke Chaney. The Hubs will return to action against DeKalb at home on Thursday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m.
