The Hubs varsity wrestling team added two wins to its resume on Tuesday, sweeping a home triangular meet with Belvidere North and Winnebago to improve to 15-12 on the season. Rochelle took down Winnebago 64-15 before defeating Belvidere North 54-21.

Rochelle matmen improve to 15-12 on season

ROCHELLE — The Hubs varsity wrestling team added two wins to its resume on Tuesday, sweeping a home triangular meet with Belvidere North and Winnebago to improve to 15-12 on the season. Rochelle took down Winnebago 64-15 before defeating Belvidere North 54-21. The Hubs will battle in the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational this Saturday.

Winnebago

Hayden Faworski earned a forfeit at 106 pounds before Rochelle freshman Reese Kirk took a forfeit at 113 pounds and freshman Grant Thompson won by 11-3 major decision over Winnebago’s Micah Bloomquist at 120 pounds. Carlos Sanchez gave the Indians a 12-10 lead when he pinned Hub sophomore Keegan Davis at 126 pounds.

Rochelle received four straight forfeits soon after, with senior Andy Silva (132 pounds), senior Justin Hernandez (138 pounds), junior Eddie Villalobos (145 pounds) and sophomore Victor Jefferson (152) all earning free passes. Trailing 34-12, Winnebago scored when Tristan Faworski edged Rochelle senior Ehren Metzger at 160 pounds by 5-3 decision.

Freshman Ben Harvey took a forfeit at 170 pounds before Hub senior Austin Tracey won by fall over Jaden Medrano at 182 pounds. Senior Alex Harvey (195 pounds), senior Bazil Bennett (220 pounds) and junior Nick Henson (285 pounds) all took forfeits to close out the match.

Belvidere North

Thompson began Rochelle’s match with Belvidere North with a fall victory over Joey Ortiz at 120 pounds. Issac Hernandez slipped past Davis by 5-3 decision at 126 pounds before Devin Dively won by fall over Silva at 132 pounds to give Belvidere North a 9-6 advantage. Justin Hernandez then took a forfeit at 138 pounds.

Villalobos pinned Belvidere North’s Brayden Payne at 145 pounds, and Metzger earned a forfeit at 152 pounds before Rochelle sophomore Gavin Ansteth pinned Dusten Treu at 160 pounds and Ben Harvey received a forfeit at 170 pounds. Hub sophomore Bryan Garza earned a forfeit at 182 pounds, and Tracey won by fall at 195 pounds before Alex Harvey pinned Trever Dawson at 220 pounds.

Henson won by fall over Isaiah Burk at 285 pounds, and Belvidere North earned two forfeits at 106 (Malayke Rodriguez) and 113 (Mia Rodriguez) to end the match.
