ROCHELLE — Iris Ann Stewart, 83, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Rochelle Community Hospital. Iris was born March 25, 1934, in Batavia, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Vera (Johnston) McCoy. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1952.
The family moved to Rochelle in 1971.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Raymond McCoy; and two sisters, Lois Sumrall and Mildred Helmkay.
Iris was an accomplished seamstress, sewing anything from alterations to quilts.  She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. She also loved to travel.
She was a hard worker with a strong will and determination to do the best at any task no matter how big or small. Family was very important to Iris and she had many friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and we will miss her laughter. You could always count on her for a joke and a little mischief.
Iris is survived by three sons, Vern (Nena) Stewart, Dennis (Janet) Stewart, and Scott (Krystal) Stewart, all of Rochelle; eight grandchildren, Michael (Doreen) Stewart, Shawn (Amanda) Stewart, Ryan (Ashley) Stewart, Kelly (Shawn) McKenzie, Cori, Daniel, Addison, and Bryson Stewart; five great-grandchildren, Trenton, Easton, and Audrey Stewart, Liam Stewart and Miles McKenzie with another great-granddaughter to arrive in November; one brother, John (JoAnn) McCoy of Hampton; and one sister, Mary Lou (Larry) Woollums of Ottumwa, Iowa; brother-in-law, Virgil (Alice) Stewart of Waterloo, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place at 11 on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the First Presbyterian Church of Rochelle, 1100 Calvin Road, in Rochelle with Pastor Jim Tilley officiating. Visitation will be from 9 - 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Trinity Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rochelle Little League and Rochelle Fire Department. Please visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
