SHABBONA — James P. Hart, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at Prairie Crossing Nursing Home in Shabbona. James was born on Jan. 28, 1935 in DeKalb, to Francis and Frances (Kerwin) Hart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita (Edwin) Friestad, Cleo Hart, and Irene (Owen) Johnson; and a brother, Jerome Hart.
James served in the U.S. military from 1955-1957 in the 49th Armored Medical Battalion. He graduated from the University of Illinois.
James is survived by his wife, Bette Hart; daughter, Rebecca Day; son, Brad Calhoun; brother, John (Ann) Hart; grandchildren, Justin (Melissa) Joyce, Jeremy (Amy) Day, and Shauna Day; great-grandchildren, Tyler Joyce, Cohen Day, Evan Day, Cooper Day, Parker Day, and Charissa Calhoun; and a great-grandson, Everett James Joyce.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at St. James Catholic Church, 231 W. Kirke Gate, in Lee with Father Bonaventure Okoro officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Calvary Cemetery in Lee.
