ROCHELLE — With deepest sorrow, we announce that John Michael “JZ” Zimmerman, beloved boyfriend, son, brother, father and friend, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 22, 2021.

John was born Oct. 1, 1986 in Sycamore, the son of Richard “Zip” Zimmerman and René Schwartz.

John was the owner of Main Street Collision in Rochelle. He had a passion for restoring classic cars and custom airbrush work. He took great pride in custom painting helmets for his daughter’s, Riley, softball teams. John helped coach her city league and travel softball teams and never missed a game.

He enjoyed playing golf, pool, baseball, darts, bowling, playing drums and riding motorcycles. John was always happy and had a positive outlook. He genuinely loved life and was someone you could always count on to be there when you needed him.

He was a devoted father to his daughter, Riley. She could often be found at the shop with him. John was excited to plan his future with his girlfriend, Danielle Bendixon, who is expecting their first child. He was a loving boyfriend, father, son, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his girlfriend, Danielle Bendixon, and their unborn child; daughter, Riley Zimmerman; father, Richard “Zip” Zimmerman; mother, René (James) Schwartz; siblings, Paula (Chad) Palas, Beth (Jason) Slone, Jacob Smith, Rachel (Josh Byrnes) Smith, Jesse (Brianne) Schwartz and Lacy (Justin) Nelson; grandparents, Melvin (Ruth) Zimmerman, Parry Stevens, Jerry Schwartz and Lee Eckman; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Velma Zimmerman; and maternal grandparents, Ed Stevens and Dorothy Stevens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday, April 26 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines should be followed.

A private family funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at the funeral home with Pastor James Horvath officiating. A public graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
