PERU — Rochelle junior Tyler Johnson turned in a monster performance against the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers at the Illinois Valley Super Bowl on Tuesday, but his effort wasn’t enough for the Hubs varsity bowling team to lock down a win on the road.
The Cavaliers defeated Rochelle 3,594-3,141 to drop the Hubs to 2-7 on the season. LaSalle-Peru took the first game against the Hubs 1,167-1,058 behind 246 from Bryce Schmitz and 223 from David Hillyer. Johnson led Rochelle with 247 while both juniors Dallas Driver and Brady Shank rolled 175.
Landin Miller’s 227 and Schmitz’s 247 propelled the Cavaliers to a 1,200-948 victory in the second game, Brandon Schroeder added 223 for LaSalle-Peru, with Johnson shooting 233 and Driver totaling 188. The Cavaliers cruised to a 1,227-1,135 victory in the third game despite all six Rochelle bowlers rolling scores equal or greater than 170.
Schmitz bowled 246 in the third game for a match-high 739 series, and Johnson shot 237 to lead Rochelle with a 717 series. Hillyer (225), Silex Hounsve (214) and Miller (211) each crossed the 200-mark for LaSalle-Peru, while Driver rolled 190 for a 553 series, senior Tyler Nalley scored 184 and senior Mark Bratko chipped in 180.
