ROCHELLE — The Hubs junior varsity track and field team got a chance to show off its talent on Monday, with Rochelle taking on several local squads including DeKalb, Sycamore, Kaneland, Rockford Boylan, Sterling and Dixon.

Sophomores Greg Ricketts and Ryan Friestad led Rochelle in the open sprints. Ricketts finished eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.70 seconds, while Friestad (27.26) edged out junior teammate DiQuan Ishmon (27.48) for eighth place. Sophomore Benjamin DaCosta ran a 58.98 in the 400-meter dash to finish second, with freshman Zach Akey (1:01.83) taking sixth.

In the open distance events, freshman Tucker Louis represented the Hubs in the 800-meter run, and freshman Diego Escobar was Rochelle’s lone competitor in the 3200-meter run. Louis placed eighth with a time of 2:25.49, while Escobar finished fifth with a time of 11:40.35. Four RTHS racers took the track for the 1600-meter run, with senior Kevin Infante recording the team’s best time of 5:26.26.

Sophomore Dylan Finkboner recorded three top-5 finishers on Monday, running a 20.09 for fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles and a 47.75 for third place in the 300-meter hurdles, while sophomore Ruben Herrera (51.26) took sixth. Finkboner also placed fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-2.

Over by the throwing events, senior Josh Norris finished third in the shot put with a team-best heave of 37-4, and Norris recorded Rochelle’s best discus throw with a toss of 71-4 ½. Sophomore William Baez marked 61-1 in the discus competition and 28 feet in the shot put, landing 11 inches behind freshman teammate George Rodriguez (28-11).

Freshman Aaron Vondergathen and sophomore Logan Lidren led the Hubs in the pole vault, with both boys clearing 7-6. Sophomore Alex Louck placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 16-4, and rounding out the top finishers on the day was senior Richie Sarabia, who leapt 12-8 in the long jump and 28-3 ¼ in the triple jump.
