KATY, Texas — Kathleen Clare (Macklin) Johnson of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully June 19, 2018 at home. She was born Oct. 23, 1946 in DeKalb, to Clifford and Clarice (Oleson) Macklin and grew up in Steward.
She graduated from Rochelle Township High School in Illinois in 1964 and went on to receive a Bachelors degree in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970.
She worked as a software engineer in Austin for many years. Besides having a lifelong interest in math and the sciences, she was also a talented artist working primarily in fiber arts. Her work in clothing and quilting especially was recognized and accepted in several juried fiber art exhibitions where she won numerous awards.
She traveled extensively, particularly in later years when she developed an interest in genealogy, making several trips to her ancestral roots in Norway and Ireland. She traveled to many other countries in Europe and the Far East and Egypt which had always fascinated her.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Tom; their daughter, Clare; her brother-in-law, Steve, and niece, Samantha, and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kent.
She was a wonderful wife and mother, intelligent and compassionate. She was a lifelong advocate for the animals and supported and volunteered at several animal charities.
As per her wishes, there will be no memorial services. Those wishing to honor her life, may make a contribution to a local animal charity of their choice.
