Kennay's celebrate with grand opening of distillery

ROCHELLE — City leaders, including the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and members of the community officially welcomed Kennay Farms Distilling to downtown Rochelle Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony and public reception.

The event follows over two years of renovation at the Hub Theater making Kennay Farms Distilling the largest craft distillery in the state.

Kennay Farms founders Rick and Doris Kennay expressed gratitude for everyone involved in the process from start to finish. Mayor Chet Olson also thanked the Kennay family for their investment in the Rochelle community.

“The Grand Opening was a culmination of three years of work from a very talented team. Sjostrom & Sons, Gary Anderson Architects, Area Mechanical, and Special Power were with us from the very beginning designing and building a state of the art facility,” said Aubrey Quinn. “The Rochelle community was very welcoming and we look forward to many celebrations of all kinds at the distillery for years to come.”

The ceremony kicks off a grand opening weekend with tours of the distillery, brewery and Rickhouse.

“The Kennay family’s transformation of the Hub Theater has been incredible to watch,” said City Manager Jeff Fiegenschuh. “Visitors to the Distillery will see the architecture and history of the theater maintained while enjoying the space in a new way.”
