ROCHELLE – A local veteran was honored for his lifelong membership to the Floyd J. Tilton VFW Post.
John Kisner Sr., a Vietnam War veteran who served in the Army, has been a member of the VFW for 50 years, and to honor his longtime membership to the Post, he was awarded the life membership patch.
Kisner said receiving the patch is a sentimental gesture because it reminds him of his parents, who first brought him to the Rochelle Post.
“It really means a lot to me because my mom and dad got me my membership and they are both gone now,” said Kisner. “I have been coming ever since I was a kid.”
Kisner found out last week that he was going to be receiving the patch and said he plans to sew it on to an appropriate article of clothing in the future.
“I really enjoy spending time at the post with the other veterans and is very grateful to have one located in town,” he added “This is a really great Post full of great people.”
