DEKALB — Carlie Elder qualified for sectionals in each of her first three high school bowling seasons, and the Rochelle Township High School senior went 4-for-4 when the Lady Hubs varsity bowling team competed in the IHSA DeKalb Regional at Mardi Gras Lanes this past Saturday.

Rochelle finished seventh out of 12 teams in the regional tournament with 4,954 pins, and while the team didn’t advance to the IHSA Sycamore Sectional this coming weekend, the Lady Hubs are sending both Elder and senior Katie Dummer to the next round. Elder placed sixth individually with 1,209 pins and high games of 237 and 235.

“I’m so happy that I get to participate in sectionals for my fourth year,” Elder said. “I think the key to my success was practicing at Mardi Gras Lanes, and my practice scores were good so I had a safety net because I walked into the regional with confidence. I kept my attitude up and I stayed calm. I was focused but I wasn’t getting into my own head.”

Dummer rolled 1,301 over the six-game tournament to take fourth place individually. Dummer will be bowling in her third sectional meet in four seasons, and both she and Elder are continuing their recent strings of success going after the two girls earned Northern Illinois Big 12 All-Conference honors this past Thursday. The sectional will also be held at Mardi Gras Lanes.

“I’m thrilled to be participating in the sectional round once again,” Dummer said. “It’s exciting to close out my high school career in a good way. I think we will have an advantage because we’ll know how to adjust quicker than others. I think we will do well if we go in with an open mind like we did for the regional.”

Senior Hope Palmer totaled 1,030 pins to finish 40 pins outside of the final individual qualifying spot. Junior Autumn Headon recorded 773 pins, while senior Hunter Eckhardt added 578 pins.
