LASALLE — The Lady Hubs varsity softball team continued to take steps in the right direction offensively when the girls faced the LaSalle-Peru Lady Cavs on the road Thursday afternoon.
Senior Christina Payton went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and both senior Jovana DeLaTorre and junior Faith Roush went 2-for-4 in Rochelle’s 9-2 loss. Juniors Jessie Meyers and Alyssa Stechshulte each recorded one hit on the day, while sophomore Becca Bunger drove in one run.
LaSalle-Peru took an early lead on Thursday, scoring four runs in the first inning of Lady Hub pitcher Jenna Feltes, who struck out three batters in the game. The Lady Cavs added one more in the third before putting up three runs in the fourth to make it an 8-0 game.
It was 9-0 entering the top of the sixth inning when Payton and Bunger put Rochelle on the board with each of their RBIs. The Lady Hubs held LaSalle-Peru scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, but the seven-run hole was too deep for the purple and white to dig out of.
The Lady Hubs move to 1-9 on the season with the loss, and they will face both Sterling and Hononegah on the road this weekend.
Sophomores
Mandi Lamb recorded four strikeouts for the Lady Hubs sophomore softball team on Thursday, while Molly Harrison went 1-for-2 at the dish in Rochelle’s 10-0 loss to LaSalle-Peru. Freshman Abby Reish also went 1-for-2, and Bunger added one hit after her 1-for-3 effort in the varsity game.
