ROCHELLE — The Lady Hubs varsity soccer team dropped a pair of games to close out the week, with the Rochelle girls falling at Princeton on Thursday by a score of 5-0 before losing against Geneseo at home on Friday by a score of 10-0. The Lady Hubs drop to 1-6-1 on the season and their next game is scheduled for Monday, April 16 at 4:30 p.m. with Rockford Auburn.

Princeton

Junior Sarah Craven led the Lady Hubs with two shots on goal against Princeton on Thursday, while senior Alyssa Cepeda added one shot on goal. Sophomore Viviana Belmonte recorded 14 saves in net, and sophomore Kaitlynn Ost added seven saves. Despite losing by five goals, head coach Chris Blevins was happy with Rochelle’s effort and intensity on Thursday.

“They played out of their minds on Thursday,” Blevins said. “They were so aggressive and they came out hard… Their coach approached me after the game and he told me that they were surprised at our level of play. The girls played hard and they never gave up… We attacked the goal and we were making some good runs.”

Geneseo

Gusty winds and light rain made for difficult playing conditions against a strong Geneseo squad on Friday, and some injuries suffered during games with Princeton and Hinckley-Big Rock earlier this week presented challenges for the Lady Hubs, who fell behind 9-0 at halftime.

“I wish we could’ve been able to face Geneseo on Tuesday,” Blevins said. “We were tired and hurting after playing two games this week and the weather didn’t help us. I told the girls after the game to think about our little victories.”
