ROCHELLE — The Lady Hubs varsity tennis team hosted the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Meet earlier this week, with the Rochelle girls finishing 10th overall. The players will return to action on Friday, Oct. 13 for the IHSA Class 1A Sectional at Rochelle Township High School.
Senior Alex Nava took the court in No. 1 singles, falling to DeKalb’s Hui Zhu (0-6, 2-6) before dropping her consolation match against LaSalle-Peru’s Clara Ferrari (1-6, 1-6). Senior Jasmin Galvan represented Rochelle in No. 2 singles, losing to DeKalb’s Dasjha Eguasa (1-6, 3-6) and falling to Sycamore’s Brooklyn Scott (2-6, 0-6) in consolation play.
Seniors Marissa Belmonte and Raquel Montelongo battled at No. 1 doubles for the Lady Hubs, falling to DeKalb’s Helene Collin and Isabel Myers-Miller (2-6, 2-6) before losing to Morris players Abbie Borgstrom and Cheyanne Phillips (3-6, 0-6) in the consolation bracket. Senior Lillian Fulgencio and sophomore Kate Monfils lost to DeKalb’s Josephine Hoppenworth and Hannah Mooberry in No. 2 singles (1-6, 2-6) before dropping a two-set match against Yorkville’s Paris Roake and Tailyr Seehawer 1-6, 5-7 in consolation play.
Senior Anahi Calderon and junior Ashlynn Leininger rounded out the Rochelle squad this week, falling to DeKalb’s Alison Anderson and Kayla Webb (0-6, 4-6) at No. 3 doubles before losing in the consolation bracket to Yorkville’s Payton Pacetti and Chloe Boehm.
