1600-meter relay group advances to final round

CHARLESTON — The Lady Hubs track and field team kicked off the IHSA State Championships at Eastern Illinois University on Friday, with three relay groups competing in the preliminary heats. Junior Katherine Bakken will race in the finals of the 3200-meter run after qualifying out of the IHSA Class 2A Sectional in Lisle.

The Lady Hubs placed fourth in the second heat of the 400-meter relay with a time of 50 seconds. The team included seniors Cesca Vardman, Jacie Wyatt, Morgan Knight and sophomore Macey Ryan. The 400-meter relay team placed 14th overall in the preliminaries and the group will not race in the finals.

Rochelle finished sixth in the third heat of the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:46.03. The group included Vardman, Wyatt, senior Morgan Baker and Ryan. The team placed 13th overall in the preliminaries and the group will not race in the finals.

The Lady Hubs qualified for the finals in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:03.38. The girls placed ninth overall in the preliminary heats, finishing second in the third heat behind Wyatt, Knight, Vardman and Baker. Nine teams will race in the finals, with the Lady Hubs looking to build on their performance in 2017 when they took third place.
