BYRON — The Lady Hubs varsity track and field team placed sixth out of 14 high schools at the Byron Girls Indoor Preview this past Saturday. Rochelle scored 22 points to edge out Rockford Guilford (20 points) for the No. 6 spot. Naperville Central took first with 136 points.
Sophomore Gabrielle Harding led Rochelle in the throwing events, placing 10th out of 25 girls in the shot put with a heave of 30-4.50 while sophomore Cristina Alfano (29-2) finished 12th overall. Sophomore Maddie Ohlinger recorded Rochelle’s top length in the triple jump (28-9) to place 12th out of 20 girls while junior Cam Turner (28-6) took 14th.
Senior Morgan Baker placed ninth out of 21 girls in the long jump with a distance of 14-7.50. Senior Jacie Wyatt cleared 4-10 in the high jump to finish fifth out of 20 qualifying jumpers and freshman Afi Gati cleared 4-8 to land in a four-way tie for seventh place.
Junior Cheyene Watson ran the 55-meter hurdles in 10.70 seconds to take 14th place out of 20 girls in the preliminary round. Sophomore Macey Ryan grabbed the final qualifying spot in the 55-meter dash and placed 10th in the finals with a time of 7.94. Wyatt’s preliminary time of 8.01 put her in 14th place and two spots out of qualifying.
Junior Katherine Bakken finished second out of 10 racers in the 3200-meter run finals, clocking in at 12:31.97. Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team of Ryan, junior Abby Tilton, freshman Sofia Lenkaitis and senior Morgan Knight placed sixth with a time of 1:59.34. Rochelle’s lone event victory came from Wyatt in the 400-meter dash, where the senior won with a time of 1:02.93 while Baker (1:09.49) finished 12th.
Turner and sophomore Emma Smith raced in the 800-meter run, with Turner placing 11th (2:53.25) and Smith finishing 12th (2:53.98). Sophomore Britney Baez clocking in at 6:47.53 in the 1600-meter run to take 20th, with Wyatt (13th in 29.51) and Ryan (20th in 30.73) running Rochelle’s top times in the 200-meter dash.
The Lady Hubs closed the meet with their 1600-meter relay team of Baker, Lenkaitis, Tilton and Knight finishing sixth with a time of 4:39.43.
