OTTAWA — The Lady Hubs track and field team placed sixth out of 10 schools in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Championships at Ottawa High School this past Friday, scoring 45 points. Rochelle will compete in the IHSA Class 2A Sectional in Lisle on Thursday, May 10 at 4 p.m.
Varsity
Junior Cam Turner finished ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 27-6 and sophomore Gabrielle Harding led Rochelle in the throwing events, taking fourth in the discus throw (107-2) and fourth in the shot put (33-3). Senior Allysa Harding finished seventh in the discus throw (101-5) and eighth in the shot put (31-7 ½).
Rochelle finished second in the 400-meter relay with a time of 50.28 seconds behind senior Cesca Vardman, senior Jacie Wyatt, senior Morgan Knight and sophomore Macey Ryan. Junior Katherine Bakken finished fourth in the 3200-meter run, setting a new Rochelle record with a time of 11:39.52.
Junior Abby Tilton placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.57 and Ryan finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.32. Turner placed 13th in the 800-meter run (2:45.46) and Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team of Vardman, Knight, Wyatt and Ryan placed third with a time of 1:47.22.
Senior Morgan Baker finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.83 and junior Cheyene Watson placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 59.80. Bakken took ninth in the 1600-meter run (5:52.81) and Ryan finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.20. Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team of Wyatt, Knight, Vardman and Baker placed second with a time of 4:06.50.
JV
Sophomore Katie Van Hise finished fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 4-4 and sophomore Maddie Ohlinger placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 12-1 ½. Ohlinger took third in the triple jump with a leap of 28-7 and sophomore Cristina Alfano finished fifth in the discus (79-10) and first in the shot put (30-10 ½) while freshman Afi Gati took third (29-10 ½).
Rochelle’s 400-meter relay team of junior Grace Garcia, junior Brandi Ferrari, Gati and Ohlinger placed sixth with a time of 58.27. Sophomore Britney Baez finished fifth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:47.85 and Garcia placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (22.22). Sophomore Emma Smith finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:45.00.
Rochelle’s 800-meter relay team of freshman Sofia Lenkaitis, Van Hise, Ohlinger and Garcia finished fourth with a time of 1:59.80. Turner placed fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:11.35) and Garcia took fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (56.06). Rochelle’s 1600-meter relay team of Lenkaitis, Van Hise, Smith and Baez placed second with a time of 4:40.01.
