OREGON — The Lady Hubs varsity track and field team kicked this past weekend off with a championship performance at the 2017 Oregon Landers-Loomis Girls Invitational Friday evening, scoring an impressive 161 points and easily taking home first place in the competition.

Junior Jacie Wyatt received the Athlete of the Meet Award for her all-around performance in Friday night’s meet. Wyatt finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.09, landing in front of junior teammates Cesca Vardman and Morgan Knight, who took second and third with respective times of 1:02.99 and 1:05.36.

Wyatt also won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.23 and placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.28, finishing two hundredths of a second behind winner Betsy Currens of Winnebago (27.26).

Vardman finished second in the 100-meter dash (13.39) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (28.33), with Knight taking sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.90) and junior Morgan Baker placing fifth in the 200-meter dash (28.70) after finishing second in the 800-meter run (2:37.15).

In the open distances races, it was Rochelle sophomore Katherine Bakken’s turn to shine. Bakken took the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:52.28, and she also won the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:35.61. Freshman Britney Baez placed third in the 3200-meter run (13:41.44) to record her first varsity points, while sophomore Anne Hickey took fourth in both the 1600-meter run (6:21.11) and the 800-meter run (2:43.22). Freshman Emma Smith (2:45.31) was fifth in the 800-meter run.

Sophomore Abby Tilton’s time of 53.66 in the 300-meter hurdles was good enough for third place, and sophomore Cheyene Watson’s time of 18.82 in the 100-meter hurdles earned her fifth place. Both the 400-meter relay team (51.42) and the 800-meter relay team (1:56.51) finished second on the evening, with the 1600-meter relay team of Tilton, Smith, sophomore Cam Turner and freshman Katie Van Hise winning with a final time of 4:25.02. The Rochelle 3200-meter relay team landed in third with a time of 10:35.50.

Three Lady Hubs recorded top-10 finishes in the discus throw, with freshman Gabby Harding (93-6 ½) taking sixth and junior Allysa Harding (90-11) placing seventh overall. Freshman Cristina Alfano (89-11 ¼) landed in eighth place.

Knight’s leap of 30-11 ½ earned her third place in the triple jump, while Baker’s leap of 14-7 ¼ earned her fifth place in the long jump. Junior Alexis Crawford was Rochelle’s lone champion in the field events, winning the high jump with a clearance of 4-8.

Winnebago finished second in the competition with 114 points, and host school Oregon took third with 96 points.
