ROCHELLE — The vocal jazz ensemble GOLD COMPANY from Western Michigan University was at Rochelle Township High School Monday to perform and talk with choral students about college during Concert Choir and Women’s Choir. Gold Company will return that evening to work with Midnight Voices and After Hours.
Gold Company celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2018. At RTHS our vocal jazz program is celebrating its 23rd Anniversary. The RTHS program was designed after the Western Michigan model. Director Greg Jasperse is only the second director in this group’s history following in the footsteps of his former professor, mentor, and world-renowned performer and arranger, Dr. Steve Zegree.
Jasperse makes his annual stop in Rochelle each spring for the Vertical Voices Vocal jazz Festival as he is the bass in that ensemble. He has been an integral part of vocal jazz in Rochelle and Illinois and for many years.
The visit is perfectly timed to give Midnight Voices and After Hours ensembles and all of our young vocalists feedback in preparation for Friday night’s annual Vocal Jazz Night Concert 23 where they release their new CD, From the Heart. Voices 22 will return to perform the opening track from the CD. Voices 22 features members of this year’s Midnight Voices: Alvaro Alanis, Alec Tilton, Angela Zamarron, and Candace McMurray.
The doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3 and $5 Friday evening.
