ROCHELLE — Joe Lenkaitis, of Rochelle, was officially sworn in as a new park board commissioner on Friday afternoon in a special meeting.
Lenkaitis was appointed on June 18 to fill the vacant position on the board left open when Michael Cruz resigned a couple of months ago. Lenkaitis will serve until the spring of 2010 under this present term.
"My family has lived here since 2001 and I just felt it was time to get more involved in the community," Lenkaitis said. "Serving for the park district seemed like a good way to do that."
Lenkaitis is the site superintendent at Shabbona State Park, and he and his wife, Eva, have three children.
Following the swearing in oath, the board adjourned to closed session to interview candidates for the executive park director position, which has been open since March.
