Letter: Thankful for Habitat volunteers

Dear editor,

With April being Volunteer Appreciation Month, I wanted to thank the wonderful volunteers of Habitat for Humanity of Ogle County. As the new executive director of this wonderful organization, it has been so impressive to see how dedicated our board of directors and volunteers are to Rochelle and the entire Ogle County community.

Oftentimes volunteers of smaller, non-profit organizations are the unsung heroes of a community. They fly under the radar, working long hours, giving of their time and compassion to the underserved, overlooked individuals who, with a little support, can change the trajectory of their lives. Habitat for Humanity volunteers are not just building foundations of homes, they are building the foundation of the communities of Ogle County. They give their time and talents to create better housing solutions, as well as Brush With Kindness projects (critical home repairs and mobility projects). Habitat volunteers partner with individuals to find solutions and change lives.

Thank you to all the Habitat for Humanity volunteers, as well as all volunteers in the Ogle County community, who give their time selflessly to serve others. Happy Volunteer Appreciation Month to you all!

-Sheri Anspaugh, Habitat for Humanity of Ogle County executive director
