ROCHELLE — Lillian Fern (Clark) Tanner, 87, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Dec. 30, 2017. She was surrounded by her family in her Rochelle home.
Lillian was born on Nov. 22, 1930 in La Port City, Iowa, to Vern and Jennie (Faust) Clark. After Bible School and nursing training, Lillian began a missionary career in Tanzania, East Africa.
She married Addison Carl Tanner on Feb. 19, 1959 and they faithfully served together for more than 30 years in Tanzania, East Africa under the Africa Inland Mission telling others of God’s love. Lillian’s greatest joys came from her love for Jesus and sharing His love with others. She delighted in her family and loved having them around her.
Lillian is survived by her six children, Thomas (Carol) Tanner of Aurora, Colo., Rebecca (Andrew) Goffinet of Lindenwood, Daniel (Bethany) Tanner of Mwanza, Tanzania, Paul (Virginia) Tanner of Kilwa, Tanzania, Debra (Timothy) Carpenter of Rochelle, and Timothy (Emily) Tanner of Lindi, Tanzania; 20 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Traum, Kristin Goffinet, Kaylen Tanner, Benjamin Carpenter, Michael Tanner, Joell Tanner, Danae (Titus) Hendricks, Ryan (Sarah) Carptenter, Launa Tanner, Brandon Tanner, Bryan Tanner, Katrina Carpenter, Shara Tanner, Anna Carpenter, Levi Tanner, Rachel Goffinet, Jenna Cochran Tanner, Caleb Tanner, Imani Tanner, and Reuben Tanner; great-grandson, Ezekiel Traum; brother, Charles Clark of Rochester, Minn.; and brother-in-law, John Tanner of Idaho Falls.
In addition to her parents, Lillian is preceded in death by an infant sister and her husband of 53 years, Addison Carl Tanner.

A memorial service will be held at Maywood Evangelical Free Church, 3621 Samuelson Road, Rockford, on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
