ROCHELLE — Linda Jean Cagle, 74, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6 at Loyola Hospital in Chicago with family at her side. She was born on Sept. 27, 1948 in Rochelle, the daughter of Lorenz and Betty (Bunger) Metzger.
Linda graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and taught for 50 years in the Rochelle Elementary School District. She believed people should be life-long learners and in 2010, after 40 years in the classroom, Linda graduated from National Louis University with a master’s of education in curriculum and instruction. Her passion for teaching as well as love for her students and colleagues is what “kept her going.”
During her much-deserved retirement, Linda traveled, read, and discovered streaming TV. History and mystery shows were her favorite. She said the best part was spending more time with her beloved grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul C. Cagle, and brother, Larry Metzger.
Linda is survived by her three children: Rhonda (Kevin) Crandall of Rochelle, Jennifer Cagle of Rochelle and Steve (Sarah) Cagle of DeKalb; eight grandchildren: Mallory and Noah Mershon, Mitch (Stephanie) Crandall, Mackenzie (Brent) Boardman, Myah (Logan Brown) Braden, Makenna Malarchik, Emma Carmichael and Lilly Cagle; five brothers: Lee (Mary) Metzger, Merle (Sue) Metzger, Mark (Diane) Metzger, Mick (Mary Beth) Metzger, and Tom (Amy) Metzger; and many nieces and nephews.
